Pooled Posting: This is a pooled posting utilized to hire part-time personal attendants. Hiring supervisors review applications and make hiring decisions as part-time attendant assignments become available.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Personal Attendant is an important member of the 1st Place Care team. This role assists clients, in their own homes, with daily personal care and habilitative tasks with the goal of helping them gain and maintain self-confidence and independence.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ROUTINE FUNCTIONS
Typical Duties and Performance Requirements*
Perform and/or assist with personal care essential to the client’s health needs as they relate directly to the client:
Ambulation activities and Transferring (bed to chair, to wheelchair)
Grooming (Shampoo, dry and comb/brush hair, shave, ordinary care of the nails)
Dressing and undressing activities
Mouth and/or denture care
Bathing (bed bath, tub bath, shower) and Bathroom privileges (bedpan, commode, toilet)
Self-administered medications (remind client to take medications ONLY)
Prepare, serve, feed a well-balanced meal
Use of device(s) geared to disability (walker, wheelchair, hoyer lift, shower lift, etc.)
Tube feeding (HMA without RN Delegation)
Administration of enema (HMA without RN Delegation)
Change of ostomy appliances (HMA without RN Delegation)
Change simple non-sterile dressings (HMA without RN Delegation)
Intermittent catheterization (HMA without RN Delegation)
Promote self-care and independence
Notify 1st Place Care about any changes in clients’ condition (environmental, hospitalization, emergency, etc.)
Perform household tasks essential to the client’s health needs as they relate directly to the client:
Opening mail
Wash client’s laundry
List needed supplies
Wash dishes after meals
Light housekeeping and make the beds
Tidy, vacuum, and dust kitchen, bathroom, and client’s room
Document services and tasks performed
Perform escort tasks essential to the clients health needs as they relate directly to the client:
Doctor’s visits and Community activities
Grocery shopping
Other errands (i.e. Library, Post office, Banking, etc.)
Service Excellence
Attends assigned workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
Completes all required training and professional development sessions required by 1st Place Care (1PC), the State of Texas, and any applicable licensing, certifying, and/or accrediting agency
Abides by and supports the mission, values, goals, principles, processes, and policies of 1PC
*Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least 18 years of age
High School diploma or GED/HSE
Valid CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date and maintain active status)
Legible handwriting and ability to maintain proper and accurate charting on clients
Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check
Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems
Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation with state-mandated auto liability insurance
OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and licensure/certification demonstrating required competency
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 6 months experience working in a health care environment
At least 6 months experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, may be occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, and may be exposed to fumes, humidity, cold, heat, dust, animals, body fluids, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually relatively low. Operation of equipment may be required (i.e. automobile, hoyer lift, microwave, scale, wheelchair, electric bed, computer, vacuum cleaner, washer/dryer, etc.) Safety requirements: closed-toe shoes and gloves, as needed
